Everyone knows the saying, “Life imitates arts.” So if you’ve noticed in some of the recent fashion magazines such as GQ, Details and Esquire to name a few, you will realize the resurgence of the “The King of Cool” the one and only Steve McQueen.
There is also the phrase; “Imitation is the best form of flattery.” What better way to pay tribute to one of the most iconic stars who ever lived than to model his style and persona in the clothes we wear this Fall and Winter.
If you thumb through the pages of these magazines you will see the likeness of Steve McQueen’s classic photos. Not just any photos, but photos that make you say to yourself, “I wish I could pull that off!” Frankly, he is too cool.
You will see his classic style of monochrome color turtlenecks, which are a hot commodity for this Fall and Winter Season. It was unique in the way that he wore them. Mostly with sports jackets or car/outer coats. If I can add I think they also look very good with 2 or 3-piece suits from flannel and winter wool fabrics. Not everyone can pull this off. In fact, Richard Roundtree is also famous for rocking the turtleneck’s and long jackets. Problem is, his movie and characters weren’t totally believable.
In the pages of these popular fashion magazines you will also see Steve McQueen’s classic framed sunglasses, his fast cars, one of which has been categorized as one of Hollywood’s Most Famous Cars -1968 Mustang GT500. Ford has even used his likeness with the re-launch of the classic car. There it is. In this 1-1/2 minute commercial. The sweater. The jacket. The cool of Steve McQueen. To top it all off, he always had the leading lady every man wanted in his time. Ali McGraw, Faye Dunaway and the list goes on. All the material trappings that exude success, was all wrapped up in him.
Although he was one of the 75 Best Dressed Men of All Time clothes alone do not make a man cool. So I asked a gentleman who remembered Steve McQueen when he was in his prime. “Why did you like Steve McQueen?” I asked. “Why was he so popular in the 60's and 70's?”
The elder statesman glowed with enthusiasm as if he was reliving some great moment or event in his life. He stuck his chest out and with a straight face he said, “Steve McQueen was a "Man's Man.”
After I finished laughing my tail off I asked, “What the heck does that mean?” He replied, “He’s a tough guy. In his movies he always played a ‘man's’ part. In other words, you wouldn’t catch Steve McQueen playing in a movie like Hitch. He just wouldn’t do it." The elder statesman also said, “He didn’t take any crap. The cops were always chasing him. There was a right way; the wrong way and then there was Steve McQueen’s way!” He explained.
The elder statesman was right too! By definition a Man’s Man is intelligent, courageous, persuasive, confidant and the object of women’s fantasies.
What I find interesting in all of this is Steve McQueen absolutely embodied the essence of success and cool in his day. What I also find in this business of styling great clients both near and far, there is one recurring theme; the appearance of success will always attract attention. There are no exceptions to this rule. Quite frankly, deep inside of every man’s heart is the desire and need to be successful. There is no denying it. It doesn’t matter if you are an athlete, businessman, writer, entertainer or whatever, we all have a need to be successful. To what degree is another blog for another day.
In fact, we often gravitate to those that emulate our definitions and visions of success in our areas of expertise. And in most cases, we usually want to be the lone ranger, the guy that does it his way. The guy that goes against the system or the establishment. Funny thing is, Steve McQueen almost made you feel you could do it to.
Regardless of how you try, the bottom line is success attracts success. There is nowhere on earth you can go to escape from this fact. So my advice to you is to take the time to dress the part of success. In closing, most of us couldn’t do the things Steve McQueen did, like drive fast cars, jump fences with motorcycle’s and get the hot girl. The least you could do is look like he did and just settle for being COOL!
Until next time…

The New White with a Little Hot Sauce On It!

If you watch any news channel or American Idol you can't help but notice the resurgence of the classic white shirt.
Gone are the voluminous pinpoint button downs and broadcloth's with narrow point collars. It's the same fabric in new updated collars and silhouettes.
Today, we introduced the "Perennial Classic" Shirtings. This bunch has a great selection of pinpoints and broadcloth's that are stocked in the factory and ready to be cut! The only thing missing is you! The new S-range 140's 2 ply is an incredible value as a luxury staple. But make no mistake about it….It's all in the styling...
For example, if you’ve notice, the new white shirt has a trimmer sleeve, 4-5 inch allowance throughout the body, a 3-1/4 inch British spread collar with classic french cuffs. This may all seem greek to you, however this simply means sleeker is in…flex your muscles and show off your hard work.
This style compliments classic tailored clothing. For the distinguished gentleman who prefers to sport a narrower lapel, we will suggest his shirt collar in a 2-3/4 windsor collar with the trimmer sleeve option, and give a 3-4 inch allowance over skin throughout the body. The result…smoking hot!
If you don’t believe me, use this look with a thinner tie and you have created that Ryan Seacrest look.
This new Perennial program lends itself well for clients who are looking to "stock up” on the basics, and add a little hot sauce to the wardrobe...

C'Mon! You Can't Be Serious Pt II
What a difference a few days and a custom suit make. I posted Part I of this blog on Wednesday, March 11th not realizing the turn of events that would take place by the end of the week. Last week I talked about my misfortunes because of my failure of not knowing the language of opportunity. But redemption is a sweet reward.
While leaving an appointment in Bryn Mawr around 2:00PM on Friday, I received a phone call from one on my new high profile clients who needed immediate attention for an event that was taking place that evening at 6:00PM. I needed to style a member of his team for the event, deliver and make sure everything fit and looked perfectly by 5:15PM. I was still an hour away from downtown. This was going to be tough. Especially, when I never met the person. This was worst than a blind date. From what I have heard...
Needless to say everything went better than expected (more details in the Blog post, “Opportunities of a Lifetime). I get to the event; I mingle a little, make sure my clients are all ok and look great. By the way, hearing the compliments on their appearance was enough for me to make my day considering the last minute challenges.
As the event is moving along the program starts and in comes the MC of the event. HOLY SCHUCKS! It’s the same person. The same prospective client that I missed 7 years ago! You know, remember the post…me, with the ashy legs and crusty feet? Old shorts and shirts in the super market? What a difference!
I’m excited to say the least. Seven years ago I was at my worst. Friday, I am at work at my best. He can’t stand a chance now! I’m going for it again!
Let me use an imaginative brush and paint the picture. My attire, nothing over stated. Clean lines. Simple, classic style and killer fabrics. I decided to do layers in shades of blue. Chris Webber can appreciate this. He tried to pull it off but it didn’t work. Let’s start with my suit. It was a 2-Button Super 150’s Dark Navy tone on tone from our Yorkshire/Red Line Collection ($1,295.00). My shirt was a Light Blue Herringbone Weave Shirt with the Italian wide spread collar and scalloped cuffs from Norwich Collection ($150.00). I topped it off with a Dark Navy tie w/White Mini Polka-Dots from our handmade tie collection ($175.00). The accessories from my watch, shoes and belt were all in sync, black with silver accents. I was looking to go to work!
The roles where completely reversed. I felt like he was the guy with the inappropriate attire in the supermarket. I could have looked down on him but I saw this as a chance to be an asset by helping him get to the next level in his profession. I heard Bernie Mac say, "Dress for the part you want, not for the part you are currently playing."
When the opportunity presented itself I walked over, introduced myself and we began to have a different conversation than the one we had seven years ago. It was obvious he didn’t remember me and I wasn’t foolish enough to bring it up.
As I am writing this post I can’t help but smile at the fact that seven years ago there was a look of disdain in his eyes but Friday night it was a completely different look. I can’t explain it but I felt like I was one of his most trusted advisors. He was hanging off of my every word. It was amazing to say the least.
At the end of the day, I left with more information in the time that we talked than I could have ever gotten from any other appointment. There is no question in my mind that he will be a wearing the Stitched Custom Clothing apparel in 6 weeks or less.
In closing, I shake my head side to side thinking to myself, “Isn’t funny how much a difference a well tailored custom suit opens doors of opportunities and changes a person perspective?”
I am blessed to get another shot at this. I hope you do not take the same road that I did for your opportunity. Take the time and do it right the first time. Seven years is a long time to wait for a second chance.

C’mon! You Can’t Be Serious?
In my opinion there is never a time for you to be inappropriately dressed. You may find that to be bias since I work on perfecting the image and lifestyles of our clients. In fact, it is better to be over dressed for an occasion or event than underdressed. You can always bring it down, but rarely can you bring it up. Whether we agree with it or not people will treat you differently based on your appearance. It may not be right but that is the way it is. Don’t judge a book by the cover, but we always do.
There are rules or languages for opportunities. Here is what I mean. I learned in a meeting this week that there is a language for every environment. For example, occupations have a language. Teachers have a language that gives them the ability to work effectively in the field of Education and it is different than the language of a corporate executive expanding a business.
If you want to be taken seriously and maximize opportunities my suggestion is to learn the language. It’s called “Dress Wellish”. We need to know and be fluent in the language of opporuntities, appearance and image. Being prepared is one and looking the part both professionally and casually is the other. Do not cut corners. It will come back to bite you if you do.
Coincidentally, I have found that my experiences and the advice I give to my clients are at times born out of my own short comings and discoveries. Some of them funny and some not so funny. Of course this reminds me of a time when I rushed out the house to go to the grocery store to pick up a few items. I didn’t have time to get dressed because I was strapped for time because if was halftime of the Super Bowl (Eagles/Patriots).
Not really thinking of running into anyone, just when I let my guard down…BAM! As I least expected it, I bump into a prospective client from the Channel 6 news. Excited to finally meet him but quickly realizing I’m in a dilemma because of the attire I have on. Lack of attire would be better stated. Wrinkled T-shirt, green ¾ length shorts, flip flops and no lotion or cream for the legs and feet. Reflecting on this occasion makes me pause to LOL!
Needless to say I couldn’t pass up this opportunity to meet my potential client face to face. So I go for it! What do I have to lose? I introduce myself and deliver the most beautiful, the most elegant key positioning statement about our company, better known as your 2 minute elevator pitch. I laid that thing down with precision. Like the delivery from Barack Obama’s convention speech in 2006. If there was an audience there I would have gotten a standing ovation. It was that hot! I had him…
…until he took his eyes from the precise words that I stated to the clothing that I had on and the crustiness of my feet. The question that came to my mind again, is, “What do I have to lose?” After it all was said and done I had everything to lose. An opportunity to build a lasting relationship, develop and create a client’s signature appearance and future business relationship this would have produced.
Although this is a comical but true encounter, there are many more positive situations that have happen because I was dress appropriately. Trust me they far outweigh this unpleasant but educational experience.
So again, if you want to be taken seriously, my suggestion is to learn the language and dress like it. It’s not about the money you invest or the style you create, it’s more about the attention to detail and the ability to maximize the moment. There are only a few opportunities in life for you to capitalize on and you have to do everything you can to differentiate yourself from the competition. One of the ways you can accomplish this is to dress well…
I mean it when I say we are only a phone call, a text or a tweet away. Don’t go unprepared or underdressed. Call me and we will make sure you are looking your best. If you don’t believe me you can ask some of our clients…send a tweet…

"Heroic"...The Cloth For You to Be Super
Fabrics are always at the heart of Scabal’s products, and many new ranges have been introduced for this Spring-Summer season. This collection is taking an upbeat view, with more confident styles and brighter summer colors.
With “Heroic”, it’s back to basics with this 280g revival from the 1960s when Scabal brought out the first-ever Super 100’s. This time, no special finishes, no new effects, just an honest good quality. The designs of the “Heroic” bunch, that contains 61 different articles, are more colorful with fancy checks and strongly contrasting stripes.
At Stitched Custom Clothing our mission is to provide luxury custom clothing individually and specifically for the most influential people in the world. Using only the finest fabrics and linings from the most recognized mills throughout the world, combined with skilled craftsmanship and hand finished accoutrements we bring to you garments that are as unique and individual as each of our clients. Zegna's Trofeo & Cool Effects Make a Lethal Combination
GREAT NEWS! We are excited to be offering you the Spring/Summer 2011 Trofeo Collection of Luxury Jacketings from Ermenegildo Zegna. This collection also features 5 "Cool Effects" that will help you in more ways than one...
TROFEO 600 - 'TROFEO' is a legendary fabric owing its name to the excellence of the raw materials used in making it. The most precious of wools is woven with 15% naturally lustrous silk. The measure of the silk count is 600. The 600 silk yarns is the finest existing on the market, as it is five times finer than a high quality wool yarn. The natural luster of the silk highlights the fineness and appeal of wool, making the 'TROFEO 600' fabric an ideal fabric for summer jackets. Naturally bright, light, with a subtle sheen and a smooth silky touch. Ideal for day or night, it is for men who love the look of silk, but also insist on the performance of wool.
COOL EFFECT - This seasons 'High Performance Cool Effect', blazers in the collection offer protection against the heat produced by natural sunlight, by reflecting the suns rays. The classic 'High Performance' woolen fabric from the Lanificio Ermenegildo Zegna is given an exclusive wash treatment. This enables the surface of dark fabrics to replicate the properties of white fabrics, reflecting 80% of direct sunlight, where they would normally only reflect 20%, thus minimizes heat build up and cooling the effect of the summer sun. The 'Cool Effect' treatment does not affect the fabrics handle, which remains light, soft and sumptuous offering the wearing not only an impeccable appearance but also maximum comfort in hot climates.
These luxury sport jackets will be available for order beginning Monday, April 18th. Call to schedule your appointment today!

For The Perennial All-Star In You

Stitched Custom Clothing, a leading provider of luxury custom clothing individually and specifically for the most influential people in the world introduces the Vitale Barberis Perennial Classics.
This group of 81 micro-touch super 110's and 21 doeskin super 110's along with the 78 Revenge Super 130's gives clients an arsenal of year round cloths that is unrivaled.
The micro-touch hand of the Perennial Classics is slightly loftier and softer than that of the Revenge Collection and at 265 grams it will be comfortable in all climates.
The collection also features three super fine basket weaves that will be perfect for your blazer and sports jacket desires.
Simply put, "Mr. Customer, I can not have you walking in to meetings this summer when it's 100 degrees outside, looking like a wrinkled up, wet mess. Take a look at this collection and imagine yourself in one or two these suits. They are lightweight, handle well when traveling, wrinkle resistant and elegant!"
The exquisite wools used by Barberis have their origin in Australia, where Merino sheep are bred under the strictest of regimens on farms owned by Barberis or with which they have exclusive arrangements. The wool contains no trace of dark fiber and must be free of contamination. It must have a superior soft hand. But that is only the beginning…
In the privacy of your office or in the comfort of your home, Stitched Custom Clothing can help you create your wardrobe for any season. Call for your appointment today!

Multi-Tracked Checks
Whenever we infuse the line with these "mostly vertical" checks they get a great response! Whether its white ground or pastel, the predominance of the vertical weave will give any man flair and the confidence that this check will make you feel taller and better looking!
Bengal Stripes
This pattern was popular during the Bengal wars in India. British gentlemen often accented a blazer or suit with a smart stripe of each color on white grounds. From a distance it can almost appear as a solid shirt. Very much in style, even the most conservative or fashionable man can add Bengal stripes for Spring and Summer in violet, red and black. By the way, Purple Label, $485.00. Custom tailored from Stitched Custom $135.00 from the Hanover Collection

Dormeuil Amadeus 365-The Stuff That Owners Are Made Of

One of the many secrets of this new must-have fabric from Dormeuil is an innovative long filament compact thread. Milled in Northern England, this compact thread enables an extremely precise weaving process that cannot be found or recreated anywhere else in the world. Dormeuil’s paper press finish, used in both Amadeus and Amadeus 365, is also a fiercely guarded secret.
A comfortable suit that delivers a perfectly modern line, Amadeus 365 is an essential ingredient in every man’s wardrobe. Amadeus 365: a suit that will look sharp for 365 days a year.
"Remember, everybody knows Zenga; the weatherman on the 6:00 news wears Zegna, but the owner of the network wears Dormeuil."
Stitched Custom Clothing, was founded and established to design and provide custom clothing for men and women. Their desire is to assist clients in creating an image that develops their confidence level internally while simultaneously creating a finished look that says to the world, "I am ready to seize the opportunity of a lifetime!" Whether they are signing a major contract, interviewing with a fortune 500 company, accepting a major award, or gracing the cover of a national magazine publication, our clients will always make a lasting impression.
At Stitched Custom Clothing we use only the finest fabrics and linings from the most recognized mills throughout the world, combined with the latest technology, skilled craftsmanship and hand finished accoutrements to bring to you garments that are as unique and individual as each of our clients.

"Honey! Where's My Super Suit?"

In the animated hit “The Incredibles” ( I just watched it with my daughter for the 16th time) Lucious Best better known as Frozone interrupts an elegant evening with his lovely wife to combat evil and destruction to his city. Before leaving he realizes he is just an ordinary person with out his “Super Suit”. He then belts out, “Honey, where’s my ‘super suit?’” The super suit…
He had a mission to accomplish. In preparation for the mission, he was looking for his “Super Suit”. He needed the appropriate attire. Before he put on the “Super Suit” he was just ordinary. Blending in with the powerless. With his “Super Suit” he possessed the power and confidence to accomplish the mission.
Numerous opportunities are wasted because you the lack of proper attire— a “Super Suit.” What you wear is a large part of accomplishing your mission and goals in life. We invest in everything else and miss the mark when we invest minimally in appearance as it relates to your “Super Suit”
A “Super Suit” speaks louder than a resume the moment you hit the door - and, it helps to open the doors of opportunity.
Napoleon Hill, the self help pioneer spoke of the Great Depression in his book, Think and Grow Rich. At a time that left him broke, he convinced his tailor to make him three of the finest suits (“Super Suits”) and gave his word to pay later.
Why? For a chance meeting with a successful publisher in the area. Napoleon knew the gentleman had lunch at the same time everyday. Napoleon made sure he walked the same street everyday, at the same time. Eventually, the publisher stopped Napoleon and said, “You look darn prosperous for a man in the great depression!” The result: the wealthy publisher published Napoleon Hill’s first book, “The Golden Rule.”
Would a worn-out suit yielded the same results? Not likely. Every man needs a few “Super Suits”. It’s no secret that if you look good, you feel good and you are capable of doing great things.
The world is waiting. Frozone had his super suit, and it’s time you got yours. Whether you are interviewing with a fortune 500 company, accepting a major award, or gracing the cover of a national magazine, your “Super Suit will help you make a lasting impression.
· Super Suit Basics include:
· Basic colors like, Navy and Grey or a grey pattern. Black only as a last result. You will get more versatility out of the navy and greys. Solids or pinstripes (pindot stripes not chalk stripes).
· White or Blue shirt. Blue is the new white these days
· Shoes, polished and healthy soles. Believe me. The ensemble is not completed with “busted” shoes.
· Matching belt with shoes
· Watch (chronograph with leather band). Metal bands and diamonds are for pimps and drug dealers.
· Power tie will go with all the suit colors listed above. Make a statement with RED.
· White pocket square
· Your pen and note pad
· Confidence
· Be Super
