The New White with a Little Hot Sauce On It!

If you watch any news channel or American Idol you can't help but notice the resurgence of the classic white shirt.

Gone are the voluminous pinpoint button downs and broadcloth's with narrow point collars. It's the same fabric in new updated collars and silhouettes.

Today, we introduced the "Perennial Classic" Shirtings. This bunch has a great selection of pinpoints and broadcloth's that are stocked in the factory and ready to be cut! The only thing missing is you! The new S-range 140's 2 ply is an incredible value as a luxury staple. But make no mistake about it….It's all in the styling...

For example, if you’ve notice, the new white shirt has a trimmer sleeve, 4-5 inch allowance throughout the body, a 3-1/4 inch British spread collar with classic french cuffs. This may all seem greek to you, however this simply means sleeker is in…flex your muscles and show off your hard work.

This style compliments classic tailored clothing. For the distinguished gentleman who prefers to sport a narrower lapel, we will suggest his shirt collar in a 2-3/4 windsor collar with the trimmer sleeve option, and give a 3-4 inch allowance over skin throughout the body. The result…smoking hot!

If you don’t believe me, use this look with a thinner tie and you have created that Ryan Seacrest look.

This new Perennial program lends itself well for clients who are looking to "stock up” on the basics, and add a little hot sauce to the wardrobe...

C'Mon! You Can't Be Serious Pt II

What a difference a few days and a custom suit make. I posted Part I of this blog on Wednesday, March 11th not realizing the turn of events that would take place by the end of the week. Last week I talked about my misfortunes because of my failure of not knowing the language of opportunity. But redemption is a sweet reward.

While leaving an appointment in Bryn Mawr around 2:00PM on Friday, I received a phone call from one on my new high profile clients who needed immediate attention for an event that was taking place that evening at 6:00PM. I needed to style a member of his team for the event, deliver and make sure everything fit and looked perfectly by 5:15PM. I was still an hour away from downtown. This was going to be tough. Especially, when I never met the person. This was worst than a blind date. From what I have heard...

Needless to say everything went better than expected (more details in the Blog post, “Opportunities of a Lifetime). I get to the event; I mingle a little, make sure my clients are all ok and look great. By the way, hearing the compliments on their appearance was enough for me to make my day considering the last minute challenges.

As the event is moving along the program starts and in comes the MC of the event. HOLY SCHUCKS! It’s the same person. The same prospective client that I missed 7 years ago! You know, remember the post…me, with the ashy legs and crusty feet? Old shorts and shirts in the super market? What a difference!

I’m excited to say the least. Seven years ago I was at my worst. Friday, I am at work at my best. He can’t stand a chance now! I’m going for it again!

Let me use an imaginative brush and paint the picture. My attire, nothing over stated. Clean lines. Simple, classic style and killer fabrics. I decided to do layers in shades of blue. Chris Webber can appreciate this. He tried to pull it off but it didn’t work. Let’s start with my suit. It was a 2-Button Super 150’s Dark Navy tone on tone from our Yorkshire/Red Line Collection ($1,295.00). My shirt was a Light Blue Herringbone Weave Shirt with the Italian wide spread collar and scalloped cuffs from Norwich Collection ($150.00). I topped it off with a Dark Navy tie w/White Mini Polka-Dots from our handmade tie collection ($175.00). The accessories from my watch, shoes and belt were all in sync, black with silver accents. I was looking to go to work!

The roles where completely reversed. I felt like he was the guy with the inappropriate attire in the supermarket. I could have looked down on him but I saw this as a chance to be an asset by helping him get to the next level in his profession. I heard Bernie Mac say, "Dress for the part you want, not for the part you are currently playing."

When the opportunity presented itself I walked over, introduced myself and we began to have a different conversation than the one we had seven years ago. It was obvious he didn’t remember me and I wasn’t foolish enough to bring it up.

As I am writing this post I can’t help but smile at the fact that seven years ago there was a look of disdain in his eyes but Friday night it was a completely different look. I can’t explain it but I felt like I was one of his most trusted advisors. He was hanging off of my every word. It was amazing to say the least.

At the end of the day, I left with more information in the time that we talked than I could have ever gotten from any other appointment. There is no question in my mind that he will be a wearing the Stitched Custom Clothing apparel in 6 weeks or less.

In closing, I shake my head side to side thinking to myself, “Isn’t funny how much a difference a well tailored custom suit opens doors of opportunities and changes a person perspective?”
I am blessed to get another shot at this. I hope you do not take the same road that I did for your opportunity. Take the time and do it right the first time. Seven years is a long time to wait for a second chance.

C’mon! You Can’t Be Serious?

In my opinion there is never a time for you to be inappropriately dressed. You may find that to be bias since I work on perfecting the image and lifestyles of our clients. In fact, it is better to be over dressed for an occasion or event than underdressed. You can always bring it down, but rarely can you bring it up. Whether we agree with it or not people will treat you differently based on your appearance. It may not be right but that is the way it is. Don’t judge a book by the cover, but we always do.

There are rules or languages for opportunities. Here is what I mean. I learned in a meeting this week that there is a language for every environment. For example, occupations have a language. Teachers have a language that gives them the ability to work effectively in the field of Education and it is different than the language of a corporate executive expanding a business.

If you want to be taken seriously and maximize opportunities my suggestion is to learn the language. It’s called “Dress Wellish”. We need to know and be fluent in the language of opporuntities, appearance and image. Being prepared is one and looking the part both professionally and casually is the other. Do not cut corners. It will come back to bite you if you do.

Coincidentally, I have found that my experiences and the advice I give to my clients are at times born out of my own short comings and discoveries. Some of them funny and some not so funny. Of course this reminds me of a time when I rushed out the house to go to the grocery store to pick up a few items. I didn’t have time to get dressed because I was strapped for time because if was halftime of the Super Bowl (Eagles/Patriots).

Not really thinking of running into anyone, just when I let my guard down…BAM! As I least expected it, I bump into a prospective client from the Channel 6 news. Excited to finally meet him but quickly realizing I’m in a dilemma because of the attire I have on. Lack of attire would be better stated. Wrinkled T-shirt, green ¾ length shorts, flip flops and no lotion or cream for the legs and feet. Reflecting on this occasion makes me pause to LOL!

Needless to say I couldn’t pass up this opportunity to meet my potential client face to face. So I go for it! What do I have to lose? I introduce myself and deliver the most beautiful, the most elegant key positioning statement about our company, better known as your 2 minute elevator pitch. I laid that thing down with precision. Like the delivery from Barack Obama’s convention speech in 2006. If there was an audience there I would have gotten a standing ovation. It was that hot! I had him…

…until he took his eyes from the precise words that I stated to the clothing that I had on and the crustiness of my feet. The question that came to my mind again, is, “What do I have to lose?” After it all was said and done I had everything to lose. An opportunity to build a lasting relationship, develop and create a client’s signature appearance and future business relationship this would have produced.

Although this is a comical but true encounter, there are many more positive situations that have happen because I was dress appropriately. Trust me they far outweigh this unpleasant but educational experience.

So again, if you want to be taken seriously, my suggestion is to learn the language and dress like it. It’s not about the money you invest or the style you create, it’s more about the attention to detail and the ability to maximize the moment. There are only a few opportunities in life for you to capitalize on and you have to do everything you can to differentiate yourself from the competition. One of the ways you can accomplish this is to dress well…

I mean it when I say we are only a phone call, a text or a tweet away. Don’t go unprepared or underdressed. Call me and we will make sure you are looking your best. If you don’t believe me you can ask some of our clients…send a tweet…
